A high-speed vehicle hit a tiger in Kaladhungi, Died on Spot

News Update, Nainital: A high speed moving car hit a tiger while it was crossing the Haldwani –Kaladhungi road in Kumaon on Wednesday night.  A 12 year old tiger was killed in a road accident.

The accident took place in a forested stretch of the highway. This area comes under Fatehpur range. First prima investigation reveals that the tiger died on the spot.

Accordingto KL Arya, Ranger, Fatehpur; “ The tiger was probably trying to cross the road when the car- travelling at high speed knocked it down. The carcass has been sent for post-mortem at our range office in Fatehpur where vets will find out more details.”

The body, which could not be located at night, was recovered 150 metres into the jungle on Thursday morning. “It has been cremated after post-mortem. We have registered a case against the car driver under relevant sections of Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and seized the vehicle,” added the range officer.

Jim Corbett National Park and its surroundings have one of the highest tiger densities in the world.
